Multifunctional Star in Detergents: China Amphoteric Surfactants Multifunctional Star in Detergents: China Amphoteric Surfactants

China Amphoteric Surfactants have both anionic and cationic surfactant properties and are generally used as auxiliary components in detergents rather than as the main detergent. Their primary function in detergents is to improve the feel post-washing while providing a softening effect. Some China amphoteric surfactants exhibit good foaming capabilities and stability in highly acidic solutions, making them suitable for acidic cleaners formulated with hydrofluoric acid.

Amino Acid-Based China Amphoteric Surfactants

Amino acid-based China amphoteric surfactants are easily soluble in water, demonstrating excellent foaming and cleaning abilities with good protein affinity, leaving the skin feeling smooth after use. They are easily biodegradable and non-toxic, making them common components in synthetic detergents.

Alkyl Amino Acid Salts

Common alkyl amino acid salts used in synthetic detergents include sodium laurylaminopropionate and sodium lauryliminodipropionate. These compounds are water-soluble, producing clear, transparent solutions that are alkaline and exhibit properties similar to anionic surfactants, including good foaming performance and decontamination capabilities, and are compatible with various surfactants.

N-Acyl Amino Acid Salts

Na-dimethyl-N-lauryl lysine is a representative China amphoteric surfactant. It is water-soluble, exhibiting good foaming and cleaning capabilities, compatible with anionic surfactants, gentle on the skin, easily biodegradable, making it suitable for formulating various detergents.

Betaine-Based China Amphoteric Surfactants

Betaine-based China amphoteric surfactants are known for their excellent surface activity and wide application range. They are water-soluble, providing clear solutions with various properties, such as foaming, defoaming, emulsifying, dispersing, calcium soap dispersing, germicidal, softening, antistatic, and lubricating effects. Moreover, they are resistant to hard water, have low skin irritation, are low in toxicity, and are easily biodegradable.

Alkyl Betaines

Alkyl betaines include lauryl dimethyl betaine, stearyl dimethyl betaine, lauryl dihydroxyethyl betaine, etc. They are used in various detergent formulations, significantly enhancing washing performance, providing good softness and feel to fabrics, and improving storage stability.

Sulfobetaine

Sulfobetaine and hydroxy sulfobetaine have properties similar to alkyl betaines, but they outperform in hard water resistance and calcium soap dispersing abilities. These characteristics improve detergent washing abilities while enhancing softness and foaming properties.

Imidazoline-Based China Amphoteric Surfactants

Imidazoline-based China amphoteric surfactants are valued for their excellent water solubility and washing ability under various water conditions. They exhibit good foaming properties, calcium soap dispersing abilities, and stability in both hard and soft water as well as varying pH conditions. Additionally, these surfactants possess antistatic, softening, germicidal, and metal corrosion prevention properties. Imidazoline-based China amphoteric surfactants are mild, causing minimal irritation to skin and mucous membranes, have low toxicity, and are safe to use. They are compatible with anionic and nonionic surfactants, forming binary mixtures, especially with minimal irritation when combined with anionic surfactants in a 1:1 ratio. When combined with nonionic surfactants, they enhance the removal of synthetic fiber oils and significantly improve the dry-cleaning effect on high-grade wool products. Imidazoline-based China amphoteric surfactants are suitable for household detergents and widely used in industrial detergents, such as in the textile industry, metal cleaning, disinfectant hand sanitizers, medical device disinfectant cleaners, and deodorizing cleaners. They are also commonly found in various shampoos.

Commonly used imidazoline China amphoteric surfactants include Miranol CM, Miranol (sulfo imidazoline), Monater and 2-alkyl phosphate imidazoline, etc.
